PoHEO as a Community Eyes and Ears

PoHEO serves as a set of eyes and ears, as well as a community convener across Dar es Salaam. We reach out to various stakeholders who are the pillars of our community: governmental, non-governmental, businesses and residents. These are the resources building safer communities and improving support structures for at-risk and homeless youth.

PoHEO builds towards collective efficacy, which is the social cohesion leading to safer and supportive communities for our youth. PoHEO will supplement the work of existing organizations with a Collective Impact Strategy to improve organizational-level efficacy and reach.

Collective Impact Strategies aim to bring together people in a structured way to achieve social change. Our goal is to continue strengthening communities by bringing together residents, nonprofit organizations, government entities, business owners, public safety efforts and others to set common agendas and strategies to collaboratively tackle the issues facing at-risk youth.

Resource connecting is the name of the game. One of the means of resource connecting is through our community outreach. Our most common form of outreach is business and street outreach. PoHEO executes conversations with business owners, residents and youth in their day-to-day environments through on-the-ground mobilization of our Community Organizers and teams. The goal of outreach is to meet and build relationships with the residents in the neighborhoods we serve, listen and learn about their needs, and provide information on or direct them to a resource to help.

During outreach, organizers bring with them a variety of resources to hand out. Amongst those resources you will often find information about upcoming events, youth programming, as well as information on available food, clothing and shelter for the most at risk.

We collect data to follow up with residents and to help guide our future work in the neighborhoods we serve. The flyers and resources are ever changing to meet the unique needs of each group.
